Welcome to Artlab Thuja!
It’s June, the wildflowers are in bloom, the garden has sprung to life, the juncos and finches and grosbeaks and a cavalcade of other avian life are flitting and swooping among the trees and over the clearings while a raucous band of ravens offers occasional commentary.
A good time for new beginnings, and to launch a website.
We moved from Port Townsend to this homestead south of Chimacum more than seven years ago with a vision of making it into a place that would inspire and nurture our own creative practices, but also be shared with others, providing a collaborative platform for inquiry and investigation, teaching and learning, making and performing.
This vision had earlier incarnations in Port Townsend from 2011 to 2015 as Studio 36, and over the past seven years at our present location as Iron Mountain Arts.
However, like many others, we struggled through the pandemic years with a certain burden of isolation and discouragement, and are eager to start afresh. We feel more keenly than ever before the need to engage in creative work and through it to connect with other people—locally, regionally, internationally. We want to strengthen the ties to the community of which we are already a part, and build new relationships through collaborative inquiry and effort.
Artlab Thuja is a modest beginning, but we hope it can be the seed for future growth. We intend to develop more programs investigating art and nature, and invite ideas and proposals for workshops, performances, classes, retreats.
We seek to engage with others who share a commitment to art (in all its forms!) as a vehicle for interaction, exploration, discovery, and friendship.
Hope to see you soon!
